Southcoast Adventure · Brú base camp, road 249
Southcoast Adventure meets you at its Brú base camp on road 249, a few minutes past Seljalandsfoss, and drives a small group into Þórsmörk for a few short hikes and lunch at the Volcano Huts in Húsadalur. It is the only shared Þórsmörk day here with lunch included, and the hikes are optional: you can sit any of them out.

Southcoast Adventure works out of Brú base camp on road 249: turn off Route 1 towards Seljalandsfoss, keep going about 7 km, and the building with its sign is on the right. That puts you closer to Þórsmörk than any other start. The tour leaves at 10:00, runs daily all year, and the operator gives about 6 hours; Viator calls it a full day.
In the valley the guide strings together short walks with jeep time between them. A September 2026 guest counted four hikes of about 45 minutes each and skipped two of them with no fuss. Lunch is the Volcano Huts in Húsadalur, the hut and campsite at the western end of the valley; guests keep mentioning it. Gígjökull, canyons and viewpoints fill the rest, depending on the rivers.
Two honest notes. The "super jeep" is a lifted van, as one guest found when she expected an open jeep. And the listing's feature list mentions transport from Reykjavík while the meeting point is Brú base camp, so plan to get there yourself and ask the operator if you need a transfer. Booked direct, Southcoast Adventure lists the tour from ISK 39,990 on its own site.
Road 249, about 7 km after the Seljalandsfoss turn. Look for the Southcoast Adventure sign on the right.
Along F249 and through the glacial rivers in the lifted 4x4.
Short walks of about 45 minutes, perhaps at Gígjökull or a canyon. Join or stay with the jeep.
A light lunch at the Volcano Huts in Húsadalur.
A viewpoint or a waterfall, then back across the rivers to Brú, about 6 hours after the start.
★★★★★Our guide was a local and exceptional growing up in that area!!! We expected an open jeep and it was like a van that could cross streams. [...] There are 4 hikes each about 45 minutes.
★★★★★Knowledgeable tour guide. Learned so much about Iceland. Gorgeous weather. Great lunch. Definitely worth the trip....adventure of a lifetime
★★★★★Fantastic tour! The hike was amazing! We saw a lot of the area. Lunch was great. Highly recommend it.
★★★★★Thorsmork itself is beautiful and shouldn’t be missed, I do not recommend trying to go with a car, so this tour is ideal.

On road 249, about 7 km after you turn off Route 1 towards Seljalandsfoss. The building has a Southcoast Adventure sign and sits on the right. From Reykjavík it is under two hours by car.
It is a lifted, modified 4x4 van with big tyres. It fords the rivers fine; just don't expect an open-top jeep. See our Þórsmörk tour prices guide for how the vehicles compare.
